The magic of lines in the painter’s works

Azra Aghighi (born 1968) is an Iranian contemporary artist whose practice is rooted in Islamic calligraphy. She holds a bachelor’s degree in Visual Communication from the University of Tehran and has been awarded a distinguished certification from the Iranian Calligraphers Association.

Aghighi notes that throughout the history of Iranian calligraphy, women have occupied an admirable yet frequently overlooked role, with their accomplishments often marginalized by longstanding male political dominance in the field. Her work is included in the collections of institutions such as the British Museum and the Islamic Arts Museum Malaysia, and her pieces have been presented at auctions by Christie’s, Sotheby’s, and Tehran Auctions.
